Your Questions, Answered

Clear answers about our ingredients, sourcing and how to use our products.
What is tallow?

Tallow is gently rendered fat from beef suet. It has been used for centuries in traditional skincare, soaps and balms because of its stability and skin compatibility. Ours is sourced from grass-fed animals and slowly rendered for purity and quality.

Why is tallow good for skin?

Tallow’s fatty-acid profile closely resembles the lipids naturally found in healthy human skin. This similarity allows it to absorb easily, support the skin barrier and help reduce moisture loss without feeling synthetic or artificial.

Tallow naturally contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. These nutrients support skin health and make tallow particularly suited to simple, minimal-ingredient formulations.

Will tallow clog pores?

For most people, no. Because tallow closely resembles the lipids naturally found in our skin, it tends to absorb rather than sit heavily on the surface. The key is application — less is more. A small amount is usually all that’s needed. Over application is what can create heaviness. As always, patch test first if you are acne-prone or reactive.

Is it greasy?

When used correctly, tallow should melt in and leave a soft, nourished finish rather than a slick film. Over-application is usually what creates heaviness.

Does it smell like beef?

Properly rendered tallow has a very mild, neutral scent. In our products, any natural aroma is softened further with carefully chosen essential oils or botanical infusions (with the exception of our pure tallow products).

Is tallow suitable for all skin types?

Tallow is generally well tolerated by most skin types, including dry, mature and sensitive skin. Because its structure closely resembles our natural skin oils, it supports the barrier rather than disrupting it.

Many customers choose tallow during hormonal changes, post-pregnancy skin shifts, or when simplifying routines for children. As always, individual responses vary, so we recommend patch testing first, particularly for acne-prone or highly reactive skin.

Is it suitable for both face and body?

Yes. Our tallow balms and creams are designed to be multi-purpose and can be used on the face, neck and body. Because tallow closely mirrors the skin’s natural oils, it absorbs well.

Start with a small amount on your fingertips and gently massage into skin. Adjust the quantity depending on the area — less for the face, slightly more for drier areas of the body.

What is the difference between balms and creams?

The difference is in texture and feel.

Balms are typically firmer and more dense. They melt with body heat and create a protective, occlusive layer that supports the skin barrier.

Our creams are whipped versions, giving them a lighter, airier texture while remaining just as nourishing. They spread more easily and feel softer on application.

Both deliver the same core benefit — simple, lipid-rich support for the skin — just in different textures to suit personal preference.

Are your products 100% natural?

We believe in keeping skincare uncomplicated — using traditional, recognisable ingredients that work with the skin, not against it. Our formulations are intentionally simple and made without synthetic fragrances, parabens or petroleum-based fillers.

Where possible, we prioritise organic botanicals and thoughtfully sourced raw materials, including grass-fed tallow. Fewer ingredients, carefully chosen, is at the heart of what we do.

How are your soaps different from pure tallow?

While tallow forms the base of our soaps, we blend small amounts of coconut, olive and castor oil to improve performance and skin feel.

  • Coconut oil helps create cleansing bubbles.
  • Olive oil adds a creamy conditioning glide.
  • Castor oil supports stable lather and a smooth rinse.

The result is a hard, long-lasting bar that cleans effectively without stripping the skin.

How should I store tallow products?

Store balms and creams in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Tallow is naturally stable and resistant to oxidation, but like all natural products, it performs best when kept in moderate conditions.

For soaps, allow the bar to dry fully between uses. Keep it on a well-draining soap dish so air can circulate around it. This helps extend the life of the bar and keeps it firm, long-lasting and performing at its best.
